Week One

I never realized how much I spill...all the time. Especially in the morning, BUT I've been reaching for towels instead of paper towels.

In the studio, the whole no paper towels isn't going to work. There are just too many gross chemicals that I'm not able to deal with on towels. So only for drying will I be using regular towels and I just got 18 washclothes for that today. The paper towels I've been using in the studio that aren't nasty I'm laying out to dry and reusing.

here's the skinny on the project

Short Description: I will solicit ten individuals to identify an environmentally unconscious habit in their lives that they will vow to try to eradicate. We will come up with a plan of action to tangibly phase the particular habit out of their routine. The individuals will record their struggles, triumphs and thoughts about their undertaking on a blog over the course of a month. In reward for their efforts the participants will receive a “promise plate”. This plate will portray a silhouetted profile of the person superimposed on imagery that is reminiscent of the bad habit they are considering. Text on the plate will quote the individuals promise they made to themselves.

Target Audience: A generally informed public who, though aware of environmental issues, which are propagated from human habits of consumption, ignore how they might be personally implicated.

Desired Outcome: I want to help viewers visualize ways to change simple habits in their daily routine to lead a more mindful coexistence with their environment. This can manifest itself in any number of ways through transportation, eating, disposing and consuming in general. The issues of climate change can sometimes seem so encompassing that it is hard to accept personal responsibility. What anyone can do to affect change is to simply make the most mindful choices in their own practice. I hope the promise pates exist as a constant reminder to the participant of the promise they made to enrich their own experience.
